SAG Awards 2012: We Pick The Winners

One of the biggest surprises coming out the Academy Award nominations from Tuesday (January 24) was how significant the SAG nominees ended up being. No SAG nomination for Albert Brooks in "Drive"? No Oscar nomination for Albert Brooks in "Drive."

Demi Moore Lucks Out On 911 Tape

Demi Moore could get seriously lucky just before the release of the 911 call that was made before she was taken to the hospital earlier this week. First of all, I want to clear that I am not making light of her ended up in the hospital. I am also not making fun of her if she has a real substance abuse problem. With that said, what the heck is going on? Usually the dirty and even disturbing details are aired out when celebrities find themselves in these kind of situations. Instead, word has it that the tape of the 911 call will be edited so that it doesn’t include specific references to the drugs that were allegedly involved or even the friends that were involved. So what exactly will be on the tape now anyway? I think it might go something like this “okay, so we have a woman here who has collapsed. Help, please.” How silly is that? In case you didn’t know, sources have claimed that she was doing nitrous oxide right before she had a near seizure. That is just plain embarrassing. Those aren’t even really illegal anyway, but there is some kind of loophole that [...]

Britney Spears' Engagement Begins 'A New Chapter'

It's a 'good step' toward happiness in her life, Jordan Miller of Britney fan site Breatheheavy.com says.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/britneyspears" target="_blank">"still glowing"</a> after longtime boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">Jason Trawick popped the question</a> to the pop star on Friday. The two spent the weekend in Las Vegas, where Spears flashed her Neil Lane engagement ring as they celebrated their upcoming nuptials and Trawick's 40th birthday. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720837" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Friends and family have been showing their support and <a href="/news/articles/1676171/britney-spears-engagement-fan-reaction.jhtml">well-wishes</a> for the couple's upcoming wedding, including Spears' <a href="/news/articles/1676192/britney-spears-engaged-k-fed-comments.jhtml">ex-husband Kevin Federline</a>, who told <a href="http://tvweek.ninemsn.com.au/blog.aspx?blogentryid=963715&showcomments=true" target="_blank"><i>TV Week</i></a> magazine that he was "really happy for her." Yet it seems that no one is as happy for Spears than her die-hard fans. MTV News spoke with Las Vegas-based webmaster Jordan Miller, who runs Spears' biggest fan site, <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/" target="_blank">BreatheHeavy.com</a>, and he told us just how thrilled he is about the news. "I was pretty excited for Britney when I found out she was engaged," Miller said. "I think it's a good step for her to have some sort of relationship where she can share her feelings and thoughts about her life, so I'm happy for her." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div><p> And it seems all of his followers agree. "The overwhelming reaction from fans about the news of Britney's engagement is that they're really happy for her," Miller said. "They think it's such good timing for her, to finish the tour and kind of have a break and be able to start a new chapter in her life. So I think the majority of fans are really happy for Britney and that it's definitely a good step for her." The news doesn't come as a big shock to Miller, since rumors of Britney's engagement have been swirling for months. "There were rumors for the last six months pretty much saying he was going to do it in December," Miller said of the couple, who have been <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">dating since 2009</a>. "So it's cool to see that it actually happened and she's going to get married." Details have not been released as to when Britney will tie the knot, but it seems Miller already has the perfect wedding gift in mind from all of her fans. "If fans could get Britney a cool present, it would be a vacation to a tropical island where she didn't have to be around anyone but Jason," Miller said. <i>What do you think of Britney's engagement? Let us know in the comments. </i></p>

Common Brings 'LUV' To Sundance

Sundance represents an opportunity to '[push] forward with Common as an actor and as a producer,' the rapper tells MTV News.
By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

PARK CITY, Utah — When you're making your debut as a producer and lead actor in a feature film, it doesn't hurt to surround yourself with stellar actors like Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, Dennis Haysbert and Michael K. Williams. With talent like that on your side, it's nearly impossible not to produce good work.

That's Common's hope, at least. The rapper/actor makes his first turn as a leading man in a feature film in "LUV," the Sundance Film Festival drama about an ex-con who leaves prison and strives to mentor his troubled nephew upon release. The film represents a lot of firsts for Common: It's his first starring role and it's the first movie he's ever acted in and produced to appear at Sundance.

"This is something that is me," Common told MTV News at the fest. "And it's a part of what I want to do pushing forward with Common as an actor and as a producer."

The Chicago MC is no stranger to appearing onscreen, of course. He's had memorable roles in movies like "Wanted" and "Terminator Salvation," and he stars on the AMC western "Hell on Wheels." But this is Common's first time in an independent movie, and the differences between the indie world and the studio system became abundantly clear to him very early on.

"Things are just different. But what's still cool about it is you're really using your artistic creativity to come together and make the best thing, because you don't have that many resources," he said. "You don't have the bigger budgets, you don't have the things that [studio films have]. You need to use total creativity to make things rise.

"So this is a first for me — and it's a great first," he added.

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Keep it locked with MTV Movies for everything there is to know about Sundance.

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers

'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

<P>You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin. In early February, reports began circulating that <a href="/news/articles/1631297/mary-j-blige-records-led-zeppelins-stairway-to-heaven.jhtml">Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven,"</a> working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her <i>Stronger With Each Tear</i> album, due Monday. </p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float:left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:491065" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D491065" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="transparent" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p> But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering <i>another</i> Zeppelin classic &#8212; the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" &#8212; for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the <i>Essence</i> Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine. "I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' &#8212; it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun." Blige also said she recorded another new song &#8212; a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" &#8212; for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon. "I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.</p>

<P>He's already teased that <a href="/news/articles/1673221/justin-bieber-kanye-west-drake-next-album.jhtml">Drake and Kanye West</a> may make appearances on his next album, and on Thursday, Justin Bieber confirmed that another music industry heavyweight, will.i.am, will be assisting him on <i>Believe</i>. Letting his fans know on <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber" target="_blank">Twitter</a> that he's "gonna make that," the Black Eyed Peas frontman hyped up the collaboration further when he added, "let's make a hit tomorrow!! #collab. 'I gotta feeling this song is ganne be bigger than huge' #willpower." The news comes as Bieber is deep in the studio working on his highly anticipated 2012 release. The team-up should make for an interesting track for the teen star. With Bieber hoping to recapture some of that <a href="/news/articles/1672847/justin-bieber-my-world-new-album-justin-timberlake.jhtml">Justin Timberlake/Timbaland magic</a> from Timberlake's <i>Future Sex/Love Sounds</i>, will.i.am could bring some of that frenetic pop energy to Bieber's own work. <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:714678/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D714678%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A714678%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> Last year, will made headlines when he worked with Britney Spears on her <i>Femme Fatale</i> song <a href="/news/articles/1662289/britney-spears-will-i-am-big-fat-bass.jhtml">"Big Fat Bass."</a> Earlier this week, Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, teased that what he's heard of <a href="/news/articles/1677088/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i> has been "ridiculous."</a> Bieber will turn 18 in March, and his team is hoping to bridge the gap between the boy we met on "Baby" and the man he's growing up to be. "The only conversation we've had about Justin's album that we're about to do is it's really important that it's the proper transition, because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," Bieber's longtime <a href="/news/articles/1675015/justin-bieber-new-album.jhtml">vocal producer, Kuk Harrell</a>, told MTV News in November. Katy Perry Unfollows Russell Brand On Twitter

Katy Perry continues to stay in the headlines following her divorce from Russell Brand. This time around the songstress has created buzz after dropping Brand from her Twitter account and kissing a fan on stage during her tour. Teenage Dream singer Katy Perry has unfollowed her soon to be ex-husband, comedian Russell Brand on Twitter. In the weeks following the end of the couple’s 14 month marriage, and now divorce, several sources have shared that Perry has decided to limit her interactions with Russell after attempting to reportedly get back together, trying to work things out. Unfortunately Brand reportedly told his bride they should just move on, and there isn’t any chance to reconcile their marriage, leaving a sad Perry to drop him from her account. Since the only communication with the thirty-six year old Katy has had via the phone or by email. “She’s limiting those interactions,” a source divulged to Us Weekly. “He’s being so atrocious that she feels like she never really knew him.” Trying to remain strong and confident on the outside, Perry’s friends have been left trying to cheer the Fireworks singer up now that her marriage is over. Viola Davis, Alexander Payne Celebrate Oscar Nods

Directors of 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' and 'A Separation' also revel in their Academy Awards recognition.
By Kara Warner

Viola Davis in "The Help"
Photo: DreamWorks

As Academy Awards nomination day rolls on, so do the excited and deliriously happy reactions from the nominees.

You can almost see and feel two-time nominee Viola Davis smiling via her statement. "It's an honor to be nominated a second time. It is a personal accomplishment and triumph for women and women of color," Davis said of her Best Actress nomination for "The Help." "I'm so glad the film has been recognized. It was a labor of love from the moment it was conceived, and it is rewarding to see the impact it is having."

Davis was previously nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in 2008's "Doubt."

What were the biggest shocks and snubs from this year's Oscar nominations?

Triple-nominee Alexander Payne, who's up for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on "The Descendants," took the time to shine the spotlight on his collaborators on the film, particularly his editor and fellow nominee, Kevin Tent. "There's no denying that Oscar nominations for one's film are exciting, if only for the joy they give to everyone who worked so hard on the film," Payne said in a statement. "I'm particularly happy for the recognition of my longtime editor Kevin Tent. He really deserves it."

"I'm deeply honored that the Academy recognized 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' as well as Max von Sydow," director Stephen Daldry said of the film's Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor nominations. "The entire team behind our film felt the enormous responsibility in taking on this project, and it is deeply humbling to have the Academy recognize it in this way."

Steven Spielberg also chimed in about nominations for a film he directed ("War Horse") and one he produced ("The Help"). "I am thrilled with our multiple nominations for 'The Help' and 'War Horse.' It is the first time that I have experienced two Best Picture nominations in the same year," Spielberg said in a statement. "One is a high honor. Two is humbling but very exciting. It is a tribute to all those who joined with Stacey Snider and our DreamWorks Studios team to develop and make these two films with stories that we passionately felt we had to make."

Multi-talented writer/director/producer Asghar Farhadi was also very happy to have scored his second Best Foreign Language Film nomination, along with a Best Original Screenplay nod, for the critically acclaimed film "A Separation." "This is cheerful news for me and for the family of cinema in Iran, specially the nomination for the Best Original Screenplay," Farhadi said in a statement. "It seems that although people speak different languages around the world ... there is one common universal language which everyone understands: The Language of Cinema."

Fun fact about the film's Best Original Screenplay nomination: It is the first screenplay written in Farsi to receive a writing nod.

Justin Bieber 'Rap-Singing' On New Lil Twist Collabo

Next up, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. "We're getting ready to drop that record 'Wherever You Are.' Y'all will have that real soon," Lil Twist told MTV News of the high-powered collaboration. "It's a fun record. Justin killed it. He's, like, rap-singing on it; another different sound for Justin." Twist, who built his fanbase thanks to pop-rap joints like "Little Secret" with Bow Wow and "Love Affair," has been developing a harder edge lately. His recently released video for the Busta Rhymes-assisted "Turnt Up" focuses more on the 18-year old's rap bars rather than his penchant for catchy hooks. His <i>Golden Child</i> mixtape, which he dropped in December, also shows a similar growth. But with <a href="/news/articles/1670055/justin-bieber-lil-twist-single.jhtml">"Wherever You Are," Twist just promises</a> a good time. "It's gonna be great. It's a cool summer record," Twist told MTV News last August. "It's a party song. Straight for the sun. It's a Miami record." While the record has been in the works for some time, Twist is almost ready to let to go. "Just me and Justin, people been waiting on that," he said of his bond with the Biebs. "That's my brother right there. It's just been a long time coming. Now that we been had the record done, it's time to put it out." <i>Are you anticipating Lil Twist's "Wherever You Are," featuring Justin Bieber? Alliance Kamdem Restraining Order Request Against Gabriel Aubry: Denied!

While Halle Berry attempts to deny Gabriel Aubry access to daughter Nahla - following a report that claims he shoved the child's nanny while she was holding the three-year old - a Los Angeles judge has granted this model one tiny victory in court.

Alliance Kamdem, the nanny in question, had applied for a restraining order against her former employer on grounds that he has abused her physically and emotionally, twice pushing her out of doorways; sometimes violently snatching his child out of her arms; and once even saying she was a "spy."

Nahla and Dad

But a judge referred to Kamdem's petition today as "insufficient and speculative." He said she should take her complaint to family court.

Alliance quit her position after the most recent incident and has also filed a police report against Aubry.

Lady Gaga To Help Drop New Year's Ball In Times Square

By James Montgomery

<P>Back in May, ahead of the release of her <i>Born This Way</i> album, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> described her hometown of <a href="/news/articles/1664561/lady-gaga-inside-the-outside.jhtml">New York City as her "husband,"</a> and now, she's been tapped to help her spouse ring in the New Year in the most traditional of ways: by dropping the ball in Times Square. Yes, according to <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/gaga_drops_ball_fteffspivv7Quv1C8wfY3N#ixzz1hvpmXoPi" target="_blank"><i>The New York Post,</i></a> Mayor Michael Bloomberg has named Gaga as his special guest at the City's annual New Year's Eve celebration, where she'll ceremoniously push a Waterford Crystal button at 11:59 p.m., officially beginning the famed crystal ball's descent over the raucous Times Square crowd. Shortly after the official announcement was made, Gaga took to her <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/152393767155011584" target="_blank">Twitter account</a> to express her excitement, writing "I'm so looking forward to ... dropping the Ball with Mayor Bloomberg! What an honor as a New Yorker!" Each year, Bloomberg chooses a guest to drop the ball and help usher in the New Year ... though, to date, Gaga is his most, uh, <i>unique</i> pick: previous honorary button-mashers have included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell, Muhammad Ali and Rudy Giuliani. Of course, dropping the Times Square Ball &#8212; which this year is bedazzled with 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles and carries the theme of "Let There Be Friendship" &#8212; isn't Gaga's only New Year's Eve gig. She'll also perform at <a href="/news/articles/1676540/new-years-eve-party-kim-kardashian-lady-gaga.jhtml">two NYE celebrations:</a> the 40th annual "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" and, of course, the Japanese program "Kohaku Uta Gassen." MTV will also be throwing a New Year's Eve party of its own: <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/new_years_eve/series.jhtml">"NYE in NYC 2010,"</a> a performance-packed special featuring Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Jason Der&#252;lo and more. It all goes down live on MTV at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday (December 31) from Times Square. <i>Will you be watching the ball drop this New Year's Eve? Let us know in the comments below!</i></p>

<P>Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation will launch February 29 with a fete at Harvard University, the singer and her mother and co-founder, Cynthia Germanotta, announced in a statement on Thursday (January 19). BTWF was created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:683376.id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Joining the pop star at Sanders Theatre will be her partners in the endeavor: Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment. Gaga has long been a staunch supporter of anti-bullying legislation, reportedly <a href="/news/articles/1672010/lady-gaga-obama-meeting.jhtml">meeting with President Obama</a> to discuss the topic in September and <a href="/news/articles/1675501/lady-gaga-white-house-bullying.jhtml">visiting the White House</a> in early December to discuss the issue with administration officials. She dedicated her performance of "Hair" at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to <a href="/news/articles/1671190/lady-gaga-obama-call-teen-suicide.jhtml">Jamey Rodemeyer</a>, a 14-year-old fan who took his own life after years of anti-gay harassment. And last year, Gaga topped <a href="/news/articles/1676499/do-something-org-celebs-gone-good-justin-bieber-lady-gaga.jhtml">DoSomething.org's list</a> of the most charitable celebrities, in part for her work on behalf of gay rights causes. "My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Germanotta said. "She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:683377.id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The Mother Monster's commitment to the gay community was again recognized Thursday (January 19) with a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the <a href="/news/articles/1677519/glaad-awards-lady-gaga-glee.jhtml">GLAAD Media Awards</a>.The awards recognize fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community across all media. In December, the diva was recognized with the Hero Award by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to LGBT youth. During her acceptance speech at <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/12/05/lady-gaga-pays-tribute-to-little-monster-jamey-at-trevor-project-live-in-la">Trevor Project Live</a>, Gaga touched on her wishes to someday make bullying a hate crime. "I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools," Gaga said. "I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there's always somebody that's listening. But I want them to know they're listening before it gets too late."</p>

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' 'Sounds Very Familiar' To Madonna

'I certainly think she references me a lot in her work,' Queen of Pop tells ABC News.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>There was a hot debate raging about 12 months ago when Lady Gaga dropped her song <a href="/news/articles/1657726/lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">"Born This Way,"</a> with people questioning whether the song sounds too much like Madonna's 1980s hit "Express Yourself." As the discussion went viral, fans, critics and even Lady Gaga herself weighed in on it. Now, as Madge preps the release of her next album, <a href="/news/articles/1677103/madonna-album-mdna.jhtml"><i>M.D.N.A.</a>,</i> and her film "W.E.," she's <i>finally</i> weighing in on the controversy. Madonna, known for her curt, pithy responses when asked about anyone who might take a cue or two from her playbook, sat down with <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2012/01/madonna-breaks-silence-on-gaga-born-this-way-controversy-2020-exclusive-tonight/" target="_blank">ABC News</a> recently and had some choice words for pop's latest princess. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she explained of her <a href="/news/articles/1622985/lady-gaga-madonna-almost-kiss-on-saturday-night-live.jhtml">onetime "Saturday Night Live" co-star</a>. "When I heard ['Born This Way'] on the radio ... I said, 'that sounds very familiar' ... It felt reductive." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:717952/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D717952%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A717952%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> When asked if "reductive" was good or bad, Madonna replied, "Look it up." The Queen of Pop did call Gaga "a very talented artist" and explained that she thinks that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the Zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna also addressed her apparent penchant for kissing female pop stars. She recently made headlines when her <a href="/news/articles/1676052/madonna-gimme-all-your-luvin-single.jhtml">"Gimme All Your Luvin"</a> cohort Nicki Minaj tweeted that Madge had <a href="/news/articles/1675587/nicki-minaj-madonna-give-me-all-your-love.jhtml">kissed her</a> on the set of her video. In true Madonna fashion, she brushed it off, saying, "It was her birthday. I gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue!" Of course, Nicki is not the first pop star Madonna has locked lips with. Back in 2003, Madge shared kisses on the VMA stage with Britney Spears <i>and</i> Christina Aguilera. "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she <a href="http://idolator.com/6137151/madonna-nightline-interview-britney" target="_blank">remarked</a> of Spears. When asked if she would kiss Spears again, she replied, "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." For those who may have missed the "Nightline" interview on Thursday, it will air on Friday night (January 13) on "20/20." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:686557/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D686557%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A686557%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center></p>

Oscar 2012 Predictions: Best Actress

Viola Davis, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams should continue their streak of awards-season love at Tuesday's announcement.

After a fun-filled start to the 2012 awards season with the People's Choice Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards and Golden Globes, the nominations announcement for the 64th annual Academy Awards are upon us.

Before Tuesday morning's reveal, we're making a few predictions about which lucky leading ladies will get the good news. Here are our predictions for the nominees in the Best Actress category:

Viola Davis: Davis has been a shoo-in for awards-season love since early August, when audiences first experienced her critically acclaimed performance in "The Help." Davis has already won a Critics' Choice Movie Award and received a Globe nomination for her portrayal of sweet-natured maid Aibileen Clark; the Oscar nomination is next.

Meryl Streep: At this point in her illustrious career, it's basically a given that any year Streep makes an appearance in a film, she will be nominated. As the most-nominated actor in history, Streep has 16 Oscar nods under her belt, along with two wins, plus 26 Golden Globe nominations and eight wins — including this year's Globe for Best Actress in a Drama. And although the reviews of her film, "The Iron Lady," have been mixed, the praise for her performance is expectedly high.

Michelle Williams: Not many of those who first met Williams via her work on teen soap "Dawson's Creek" would have predicted that she would become one of the most talented, respected and critically acclaimed actresses of her generation, and yet, here we are. Following last year's nominations haul for her work in "Blue Valentine," the recent Globe winner should expect to hear her name called tomorrow.

Tilda Swinton: The nominating body within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is just as likely to recognize performances in films with mass audience appeal and success as it is to single out performers in films that push boundaries and step outside the box. Tilda Swinton is an actress who has done just that in several films, the most recent being the harrowing drama "We Need to Talk About Kevin," for which she will surely land an Oscar nomination.

Rooney Mara or Charlize Theron: Singling out a fifth nominee is a tough call given the number of strong performances by leading ladies this year. It's a toss-up between Oscar winner Charlize Theron's performance in the dark comedy "Young Adult" and Rooney Mara's bold, buzz-worthy transformation into Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."

Winner: Viola Davis. The woman is due; just check out her résumé for further proof.

Stick with MTV News as we cover the 2012 Oscar nominations — and snubs — on Tuesday, January 24!

Stranger Danger

My sister recently had a talk with my four-year-old nephew Jack about strangers. Here's how it went:

SISTER: Now, Jack, if a stranger says, "Come here, I want to show you something," what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, "Come here, I want to give you some candy," what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, "Come here, I want to show you my puppy," what do you do?

JACK: Oh, I love puppies...

'American Idol' Auditions Jim Carrey's Daughter, New 'Bikini Girl'

San Diego auditions aired late Sunday night after the NFC Championship game.
By Adam Graham

It was a late night for "American Idol" on Sunday, as the show's San Diego auditions didn't air until after the New York Giants' overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. That meant "Idol" didn't start until nearly 11 p.m., and didn't wrap until just before midnight.

The show — which, in an "Idol" first, took place on an aircraft carrier, the USS Midway — introduced viewers to seven of the 53 singers who earned Golden Tickets to Hollywood Week. It also showcased a singer, Jennifer Diley, who gave season eight's Katrina "Bikini Girl" Darrell a run for her money in the skimpy-wardrobe department.

Sunday's show also featured a pair of shout-outs to Fox's yesteryear hit "In Living Color." In the opening moments, Jennifer Lopez was referred to as a "Fly Girl," her role on the former sketch comedy series. Later, viewers were introduced to Jane Carrey, daughter of actor and onetime "In Living Color" star Jim Carrey, whom Lopez said she remembered as a baby on the set of the show.

Carrey, now a 24-year-old waitress in Los Angeles, sang Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About," and though she appeared slightly timid, she did earn a pass to Hollywood from the judges. "Good melody, you've got to work on the volume," Steven Tyler told her after delivering the good news. A phone call to her proud papa followed, and Ace Ventura himself gushed with pride and told her, "Oh my God, is this going to be an exciting year."

Carrey's connections helped her stand out, as did those of Ali Shields. The 19-year-old from Lodi, California, appeared as a guest on "Ellen" after she wrote a song for the talk-show queen (and former "Idol" judge). That appearance gave her the confidence to try out for "Idol," she said, and for her first song in front of the judges, she awkwardly sang/rapped Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now," accompanied by a cringe-worthy booty-shaking bit of "ghetto dancing" (Randy Jackson's words). She followed with an earnest version of Corinne Bailey Rae's "Like a Star" that better showed off her vocal ability, and it earned her one of those pretty little Golden Tickets to Hollywood.

Also passing through to Tinseltown was Ashley Robles, a 26-year-old single mother from San Diego, who works as a DJ and at an insurance agency when she's not singing. Robles took a big risk by attempting one of the biggest ballads ever, "I Will Always Love You," but she held her own and managed to scale the song's landmark high notes with precision and grace. Jackson called her a "natural," while Tyler predicted, "You're gonna be big."

Tyler also had high praise for Aubree Dieckmeyer, a 20-year-old receptionist from San Clemente, California. Dieckmeyer sang a solid version of "Feeling Good," a standard that she credited to Michael Bublé, and Tyler praised the "flavor" in her voice. Jackson complimented her "good natural talent," noting she lost some power in her upper range, while Lopez told her she loved her look, her voice, "everything about you."

Though they made a strong showing, it wasn't all about the girls in San Diego. Jayrah Gibson, 26, of Long Beach, California, won the judges over with his version of Musiq Soulchild's "Just Friends," which Jackson dubbed "mad, mad good." Curly-haired frat boy Kyle Crews, 19, a student at the University of California, Berkeley, serenaded Lopez with Monica's "Angel of Mine" and was called the "best male voice we've heard yet" by Tyler. And 24-year-old Jason "Wolf" Hamlin of Livermore, California, a burly mechanic with an armful of tattoos, wrapped his big voice around songs by Creedence Clearwater Revival and Johnny Cash and earned his way into Hollywood Week.

While Sunday's show continued the season's renewed focus on "real" singers rather than gag auditions, at one point Tyler gave a revealing glimpse at the other "Idol," the one we're not seeing. Prior to the second day of San Diego auditions, Tyler sarcastically lamented to the cameras, "I can't wait to hear 40 people sing the same Adele song for six [bleeping] hours!" We'll take the new format over that any day.

"Idol" returns Wednesday, when it hits the slopes in Aspen, Colorado, for its next round of auditions.

What did you think of Sunday's late-night "Idol"? Let us know in the comments!

<P>As promised, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> and her boys Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa and Andre 3000 dropped a new <a href="/news/articles/1672529/lil-wayne-kesha-ti-wiz-khalifa-remix.jhtml">remix of "Sleazy"</a> on Tuesday (December 13). </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1661961" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The Bangladesh-produced song originally appeared on K-Dollar's 2010 <a href="/news/articles/1651081/keha-gets-sleazy-on-new-cannibal-track.jhtml"><i>Cannibal</i> album</a> before a <a href="/news/articles/1656039/andre-3000-pops-up-on-kehas-sleazy-remix.jhtml">remix featuring Andre</a> popped up earlier this year. The latest version of the song is available for purchase and is all over blogs like <a href="http://www.rap-up.com/2011/12/12/new-music-kesha-f-wiz-khalifa-andre-3000-ti-lil-wayne-sleazy-remix/" target="_blank">Rap-Up.com</a>. The song gets a bit dirtier and introspective thanks to verses from the guys that play up the track's bumping beat. Wiz kicks it off, rapping about designer clothes and his lady love, Amber Rose. "OK, I'm young and I'm tatted/ I get them bucks like an addict/ Rocking this Christian Dior/ I spend so much on my fabric/ I got a wifey at home/ And what she wants she can have it," he spits before going on about chilling on the beach, being rich and his prowess in the bedroom. Sitting in between Wiz and Tip is Andre's recycled verse, before T.I. gets his shot and gets sexy, asking Ke$ha, "Do you know what to do with me?" before he launches into a verse all about how good he is to the ladies. "Bad bitches know me/ So don't bother introducing me/ They want me more than diamonds," he brags before explaining that it has a lot to do with his impressive anatomy. Wayne closes it out, adding his own signature flair. "We be on that sh-- that no one be on/ That's what we on/ Smoke that neon, Kings of Leon/ Dynamite, Napoleon/ Got some skinnies and a tee on/ And some Vans," he rhymes about his famous sense of Weezy-fied style before the song circles back to the funky chorus, where Ke$ha declares that she doesn't "need you or your brand-new Benz/ Or your bougie friends/ I don't need love lookin' like diamonds/ Lookin' like diamonds." If any of K's fans or critics were wondering if she has the swagger to chill with the guys, she displayed some of her sass when she <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/KESHASUXX" target="_blank">tweeted</a> about the remix. "Question ANIMALS ... who can say they got with Lil Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000 and Wiz Khalifa on a f---ing hot track??" she asked. "ill give u one clue ... Its $." <i>What do you think of the "Sleazy" remix? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>
